Has anyone incurred the new way UPS is calculating box weight for overnight shipments? They are now are multiplying the box L x W x H / 194= Dimension weight. If you use a 15 x 11 x 7 standard insulated box the ship weight is 6 lbs even if the ship weight is 2 lbs. This has a big impact on overnight shipping. It easliy can add $20 ($40 ---> $60) plus to the cost for any coast to coast shipment.

Anyone have any ideas around this problem?

yes, I am just as pissed off at this as you and probably many others are. It is rediculous what UPS has done, I noticed it this week as I send out my huge bundle of herps and just about had a heart attack especially since I quote everyone usually $40 for overnite service. Now I guess we herp shippers are gonna go to DHL or FEDex. If you ship alot of packages, DHL will lower their rates (they called me and told me this when I complained about their rates being too high) but I did not mention UPS rates increasing so if you call DHL or email them and you have a lot of packages, they will reduce their rates for you. Good luck to all the herp shippers out there.

I just did. I thought I'd look in the forums and see if anyone else has had this happen. I asked the lady if there has been any increase and she told me that she has'nt heard of any, what ever. Definitly looks like they are up to some sneaky buisness. It looks like the days of $35. shipping is about to end. It's a bummer but we might end up with an average cost of $50. for shipping. My normal $35. just changed to $52. F UPS, time to change to Fed-Ex.
