New Toys From Japan - Elaphe conspicillata *Pics*

Stephen Emerick Jul 03, 2003 11:56 PM

I just wanted to share a photo of my new conspicillatas (Japanese Forest Ratsnakes). These Captive Born Gems were produced by my friend Shuto in Kagawa, Japan, and are locality specific with the Dam being collected in Miyakouchi, Tokushima prefecture and the sire collected from Tessei-cho, Okayama prefecture..

Thanks, Stephen Emerick

I hope to see lots of pics of eggs from that group! Are they like Mandarins in temperament?

What is the snake with the red stripe on the belly?
Thanks,

Actually this unbelievable snake is a Kukri snake. I believe (if my memory serves me) it's Oligodon formosanus, from Thailand.
Stunning coloration both dorsal and ventral. This is the first one we've imported, but are now interested in setting up some colonies of the different subspecies of these guys

Thanks, Stephen Emerick

Stephen,
Thanks for posting the pics. Did a quick search on google and saw that they're reptile egg eaters (sea turtle eggs were mentioned). How are they feeding for you? BTW, congratulations on the Elaphe porphyracea vaillanti eggs!

Man i love those guys.. Oddly enough, the local petstore I frequent(for obvious reasons) got in a couple baby kukris. They usually order the most obscure things they can find on lists, so end up with some neat stuff.. When I saw them in the store, i came home and furiously researched. Theres hardly any info on them online that I could find, other then that they were so named because of they're large teeth, and ate frog eggs and amphibians of all things. Do yours take rodents?
