Northern question

greg woodie Jan 05, 2005 09:26 PM

i have a juvenile Northern Water snake. lately, he's been regurging when i try to feed him. it's strange, too, because i'll watch him eat the small fish i give him, they'll travel down his body, stop at a point, and then immediately start coming back up. he then will try to swallow them again. could he be sick? has anybody ever seen anything like this before? what can i do? i appreciate any help/advice!

greg

What kind of fish are you feeding it? the one thing that popped into m mind was that it may have been threatened by your presence and it regurges it when/if you move. I would suggest for the next few feedings, drop the fish in there and walk away for about 15 minutes or so. All my waters except two are so used to me that I can hold them while they're eating. Keep us posted on this as I love to see that others are beggining to enjoy water snakes.

My guess is a blockage or infection, possibly viral. If the snakes does this with every meal, its a big problem. If it does it occasionally its less so, but should be looked at by a vet.
