Offgas for Hot Glue?

crtoon83 Jan 05, 2005 09:54 PM

I was thinking of putting up some fake leaves in my tank, how much of an offgas time do I need to allow for hot glue? If any? I wouldn't think there would be a problem, but could this form to be a problem?

Thanks,
Chris

Well, I've never read the MSDS for any hot glue but my experience has been the stuff goes inert pretty quickly - that's the big advantage of hot glue after all. The glue sticks I've used, which are general purpose made by Arrow, have had very little odor at all and what odor they did have I would not characterize as noxious. I would give enough time for glue to set up and maybe allow a couple extra hours if you were putting stuff into an already populated setup.

Hot glue sticks are non toxic so it shouldnt be a problem just as long as it is dry.

As soon as it's cool - a matter of minutes. Some oral orthotics are made with the same material as hot glue. Dentists can heat it up, shape it and have it in a patients mouth as soon as it cools down.
