feeding leopard gecko

staceysusieq Jan 06, 2005 11:47 AM

We have had this leopard gecko for about four years. He has gone from crickets to wax worms. He appears to be disinterested in the wax worms lately, but this may be because the store where I get the wax worms does not have a good supply. They keep them very cold, and when they finally do thaw out they are not in good shape, even kind of old and brown. Any alternatives to the wax worms. I am looking into mail ordering them. Does a gecko change its taste as he ages? He did go from crickets to wax worms. Is there something else?

I bred leopard geckos for years and always fed them crickets. I hate waxworms for the exact reason you described in your post. I am now using dusted roaches for my lizards and they love them. Roaches unlike crickets don't smell, are easy to raise so once you get a colony of them going you won't have to spend another dime on food for your geckos. You will have to feed the roaches, but they are roaches and will eat anything. hope this helps.

First thing is waxworms are a very poor diet on a daily basis. Mealworms would be the quickest solution, but a better solution would be roaches. I feed them to all my geckos.
Good Luck,
