Of course it's my opinion, I said it, didn't I?
All Lampropeltis that I have kept and bred have vibrated their tails. It only rattles if it has a rattle. LOL!!!
Although, in the wild, if the snake is in leaf litter or dry grass it will make a rattling sound when the tail vibrates.
I think Rattlesnakes took this step in evolution a step better and evolved an actual rattle. It is just a warning device or a sign of being hostile (like when their mouth is full).
