Nelsoni not feeding

dleeroach Jan 06, 2005 01:59 PM

I have a young Nelson's milk that won't feed. She was given to me as a non-feeder as part of a package deal, so I knew what I was getting into. However, I had hoped to get her feeding by now. I've been trying to feed her in an opaque deli cup. I've tried morning and evening. I've tried frozen/thawed pinkies, pre-killed, live - I've also tried braining the pinky. So far nothing is getting this little lady to eat. I have three others that are doing great, but this one just isn't catching up. If anyone has any suggestions for how I might be able to get her going, I would be most appreciative. Thanks!

Have you tried washing the pinky with some kind of safe dishwashing soap and drying it very carefully? Don't touch the pinky at all, so it won't have any extra scents on it.

Have you tried the paper bag trick, where you put the snake and the pinky into a small brown paper back, fold down the top and secure it (watch out for little tails), put the whole thing into the cage and leave it overnight?

Have you tried different times for feeding?

How often are you trying to get her to feed? If it is too often (more than every 4 days), she could be getting stressed out by that. Do you handle her at all, as that can also stress them out. What type of cage is she in? Perhaps using a small critter keeper (shoebox size) with an inch of aspen, small hide boxes, and water bowl, might help her feel more secure.
