gestation, incubation, and feeding during gestation

restlesswind444 Jan 06, 2005 02:37 PM

ok, so...i've unfortunately forgotten some of my knowledge from last season...just a couple quick true or false questions for the experienced breeders out there. The time between copulation and egg laying is about 30 days correct? Incubation at 85 degrees takes about 50-60 days correct? and finally, once they come out of hibernation and start mating, i am supposed to feed the girls a lot while they are developing eggs right?

thanks for your time,
chris

Yes, she will hold the eggs for about 3 weeks.

For 85 degrees, the average time till hatch date is about 56 days.

When your female is holding eggs she will not want to eat very much if at all about 10 days before she lays them. You want to start feading her now and as much as you can untill she stops taking it. That way you have a better chance of getting a fertile clutch rather then one infertile.

I am unable to hold all my babies in there own tanks. So what I have been doing is keeping the eggs in 81 degrees to be sure they are female. Then I can keep them in about 3 per cage.

Hope I helped you remember some old facts.
