You know I do not own a lep, but I take care of the one at the university. He feeds fairly well. You have to cover the front of the tank so that he doesn't get all wound up. He only gets distracted and defensive when food is presented. There were 2 leps. We had to put one of them down because he lost his tail and wasnot doing well at all (I hear both leps are pretty old...dunno the ages). The other lep we had would get really defensive and rattle its tail and rear up at the glass. I didn't like foolin with that one at all.
2 of my friends each have a pair of banded leps. Both seem to be pretty cool snakes. I hadn't heard about difficulty in feeding from them. After looking at those guys I wanted to have a rattlesnake of the smaller variety.
When we were out there that is all my friend was looking for was a lep. It was a shame. All we found were several mediterranean geckos, an alligator lizard, an adult bairdi and oh yeah neonate alterna morph (not bad for beginners luck in W. TX). Maybe this year we'll find one.
