Plants in the Habitat

LittleQuacker Jan 06, 2005 04:52 PM

I am redoing the new turtles habitat from the 55 gal tote, to a 60" wading pool. Adding some parsley and strawberry plants that have been sitting around here.

Two questions please: (1) Do you put the pots in without any solid container other than the plant pot with the holes in the bottom and no drain dish at all so that when you water the plants it drains through into the sub strat and so helps to keep the humidity up?

(2) How to you feed your plants? Do I need to worry about adding Miracle Grow to the water every two weeks, or would it be a problem to put it in a spray bottle and just foliage feed?

Thanks, you guys are a big help! LQ

I would put them in in the pots, otherwise the turtles will dig them up.. Do not add any fertilizers whatsoever, as these will likely be toxic to the turtles. Just water and get some good lighting.

Thanks Mat, I do have them in the pots..they are clay. I was just wondering about whether they should be in pots with a solid bottom or not, or on a drain tray. That could be awkward as then draining would be a problem?

OK, no Miracle Grow. LOL

Thanks, LQ
