Ackie and crix

iwantamonitor Jan 06, 2005 07:10 PM

hey ive gotten my first monitor a few days ago and it is an ackie. well is it ok to leave the crix in the cage after hes done eating. if not why? the crickets usually hide where he cant find them so i have to stir up the cage a little bit for him to find them sometimes.

thank you

is there any other lizard that i could put in with the ackie besides another one. Without the two fighting.

Thanks again!

it might be OK

It depends on your setup. If your monitor gets to cool at night and goes to sleep the crickets may decide to chew on him. Might be a good idea to toss some food in for the crickets.

Please remember your monitor is in a cage, within confinment even a very small pest can seem quite large.

Do not leave crickets in your cage at night. I have witnesed numerous incidents where hungry crix have nibbled on herps.
I once had a young bearded who was munched on overnight by 1/4 inch crickets. They left a gaping hole in his abdomen, took a chunk out of the flesh its knee and shoulder, and chewed the tips off 3 toes. He survived. Close call. Since then I remove crix from all of my bearded and akie cages every evening.
