Where to find the plastic grates to use for egg incubation?

Chance Jan 06, 2005 11:11 PM

Hello all. I'm probably soon to acquire an adult pair of woma pythons, and have over the years been paying attention to how folks have incubated their woma eggs. I've noticed that a lot of people use some plastic grating material that they place over damp Perlite or Vermiculite and place the eggs on this. So, my question is, where would I find something like this? I've been all over Lowe's looking for it but have had no luck so far. I'm assuming this stuff is either already stubby enough so that the eggs can safely rest on it without being in danger of being punctured over time? And if not, what do you guys do to prevent this (sanding, coating with wax, etc?). Anyway, I'd greatly appreciate anyone's insights as to where to find what I'm looking for, as well as how best to use it. Thanks.

I assume you mean the eggcrate plastic light louvers? I just bought some at my local Lowes.

The are made as a decorative cover for 4' fluorescent light fixtures. As for that and they'll send you to the right place.

My friends who use it for egg incubation just set the eggs right on top - no protection.

Well, that certainly makes sense! lol Thanks a ton for that little tip. I guess the employees I was asking at Lowe's were probably just confused with the wording I was using. But now that you mention that, I have seen them associated with fluorescent lighting. Thanks again.
