Dragon problem

magickdragon Jan 07, 2005 12:33 AM

I have a 9 month old female snow dragon that walks weird. I bought her when she was about a month or two old and in the last few weeks she has developed a strange walk. She walks with her front feet fliped under, like she is trying to walk on her wrists. Other than that she is fine, she hasn't taken a spill or been picked on by other dragons. Eating well on her calcium dusted crickets, greens, mealies and pellets ever since I purchased her. She is also growing well. I have raised many very healthy dragons and have done nothing different with her. Any ideas?? I am taking her to the vet next week so if anyone knows any thing about this condition it might be helpful when I see the vet and I can give her other details that you guys can add to what I have. Any response is greatly appreciated, I love this little girl and will do anything for her. Thanks in advance

I have heard of this before, but for the life of me can't remember what was discovered to be wrong. From what you describ, he is getting all the calcium he needs but what about D3 and UVB? What sort of substrate do you use? Too deep sand makes it hard to walk around and that could be bending back his feet. Check the bottom of his feet, make sure there are no sores or tender spots, just in case that is why he isn't walking normally. Deffinite a vet check is the best way to go, as they can do a blood check and see if he is suffering from any nutritional needs. Is he eating all his greens?

I seem to remember that this is a neurological problem in beardies, not sure what causes it. If your dragon has UVB lighting and is getting calcium supplements, I would suspect it is neurological.

I took her to the vet today, they did an xray and her bones were very visible and strong. The vet said it wasn't a vitamin deficiency but rather a possible neuro problem. I am not happy about this considering I bought her for my super huge male hypo/snow giant. But, I am still happy to have her, she is such a beautiful girl. It makes me sad to think that this might shorten her life span. She eats well, so that does makes me happy. I am going to keep looking for answers and maybe one day we will know what causes this. I know I am going to try some things on my end, that I have come up with.
Thanks for your responses, I really appreciate it.
