Blue Tounge doing much better

AlteredMind99 Jan 07, 2005 12:43 AM

If anyone remembers i have a rescue skink who came to me with a pretty nasty respitory infection. Well, since i last posted i moved him off his realy dusty bark onto newspaper, raised his temps and have been treating him with anti-biotics from the vet. he is doing much better now and is no longer bubbling at the mouth and has almost stopped "clicking" completely! He is active (well, as active as BTS's ever are!) and eating like a hog! I am so glad, it looks like things are going to be ok for the little guy.

My one question is that he doesn't have much interest in live prey. He has a little bit of jaw damage left over from previous neglect and he doesn't like crushing the exo skeletons of bugs. He doesn't really seem very interested in soft bodied insects either. Has anyone ever had anything like this before? He eats fruits and canned food like crazy though. Is it ok to not feed live?

thanks!

You don't have to feed insects, etc. There are other ways to get the protein they need: cat/dog food, ground turkey, shredded chicken, etc.

I have two BTS that sometimes have bubbles in their mouths. What's wrong with them? The "green" BTS used to have a lot of lesions in the lower part of the jaw. I treated "her" with a bottle of deworming solution found in a local pet store. The lesions have tremendously been reduced (95%). How do I get rid of the lesions without going to the vet (expensive)? I have an undertank heater and a infra-red basking light 24 hrs/day in a 20-gal-tank. They make "funny" breathing noise sometimes too. Is that a sign of respiratory illness? I'm feeding them pinkies, fuzzzies, and chicken breast. They seem to enjoy them very much.
