What Line/Morph of Dragons Have the Most Orange?

TurtleyEnuff Jan 07, 2005 09:35 AM

I am looking for orange male to breed with my female, who is a patternless orange. I'd like to get something with full body intense orange. What morphs whould I be looking at? Citrus? Sunburst? And are there any breeders who are known to breed killer orange beardies? Thanks!

I breed Florida Oranges. Like all the other breeders out there breeding for color, there will be a mix in each clutch. Some will start off smok'n and dull out while others start off blah and then in one shed, BAM day glow. Some will never brighten up while others will never tone down. I have yet to hear of any clutch from any breeder that was 100% screamers.

Sooooo... if you buy a baybe, you gamble. Yes looking for a good breeder improves your odds. Buying an adult that is over one year old is almost a lock. By 2 years old they should hold that color.

Here's a few of my breeders

Have you thought about breding them into the hypo-pastel line? I bet that would be intense!

I have several different looks of breeders from light orange to dark and what some people call red. Bold patterns and almost patternless. I am in the process now of picking breeding pairs for the '05 season now.

Hi There-

I just wanted to point out that although the Florida Oranges is your line, it is important to let people know where the line originated when they are looking to breed. For example, I have a male from Mystical-Dragons and a Female from Dachiu. When I breed them they will be a red/orange line, but I will let all know what lines they originated from. If we don't then cousins might be unintentionally bred. It could have happened to me. I was talking to Dragons By Nature about a female. I was planning on purchasing one. I asked about detailed bloodline information and found out this girls Grandpa was my boys unlce. So, I did not get her. When people are looking for dragons to breed it is important to go back as far as possible. I have alot of respect for you and appreciate all of the time you put in the forums. I am not trying to cause any bad feelings. Your dragons are beautiful.

This is why I keep records of who breeds to who and where I got them from as well as the bloodlines they supposedly came from. I say supposedly because if I did not buy the animal direct from the breeder it is third hand information. I pass all of that info along to anyone buying a Florida Orange for breeding. Most people do not know the dangers of inbreeding and so I always ALWAYS ask if they have a BD already and what line it is. That way I can try to provide them new blood. I have BDs from a wide variety of top breeders including Dragons by Nature (BTW they produce excelent healthy BIG BDs). I have on occation had people try to buy siblings from me with the intention of breeding them to eachother with no concern. I don't sell to those type of people. Responsable breeding is essential if BDs are to survive in captivity. Dont ever worry about stepping on my toes with statement like you made. Valad points need to be repeated over and over.

I was thinking about it on the way to the grocery store, (A Family Has To Eat!) and I figured you would provide the information when somebody purchased a dragon from you. It is amazing how many people don't understand that we need to breed as unrelated lines as possible (and large healthy dragons) to keep the gene pool strong. I knew you would understand. Sometime one sticks their neck out and when they go to pull it back they realize it has been left on the chopping block. Thanks for allowing me to keep mine!

Bennett - do you have any nice orange males available? Also, did you ever pair up that female Rhino and did she calm down any? Later!
