Got engaged, here's the problem

cmsuphoto Jan 07, 2005 09:47 AM

Yep, I popped the question to the most wonderful woman in the world, and she said yes. I had an idea she would after she printed a ring off of shaneco.com and left it in my room. Here's the problem I'm having.

We are moving in together, and I have the below shown cage that's pretty big. It's 4 foot tall by 4 foot wide by 2 foot deep. Now, she doesn't care that I have snakes, actually quite enjoys them, but with us moving in together, I have a few questions.

1. Is there a better, space saving way to show corns?
2. What's the minimum requirements, length wise? I found this website, http://www.herpcages.com/cages/cprice2.html that has cages that are 24 inches long, but I don't think an adult would work in there. Any thoughts?
3. What should I do with this beautiful, albeit large, cage once done? Is there a place to sell/trade/give away a cage like this? I'm in St. Louis, so any ideas would be awesome.

Thanks in advance for any replies!

AJ

Looks like it would make a great shelf...or end table...or TV stand (sorry - college kid in me talking). In all honesty I'd keep the cage because it looks really nice and you'd probably spend more money on different set ups. It only takes up a floor space of 4' x 2' which isn't more than some TV stands take up...just do without that extra chair or something ...ok, I'm done...congrats on the engagement!

Nice cage. If I were I'd keep it.

An adult corn snake will probably need a 20 gallon long or 29 gallon sized aquarium. Although I prefer to house mine in 55 gallon sized tanks.

A 20 gallon long is 2.5 long

And a 55 gallon is 4 feet long

I just started switching to the barr cages(your website mentioned) and started with the 24x12x12 cages. I put 2 of my 2 1/2 year old corns in them. It looks a little tight in the cage. I have two hides, a water bowl, and a pvc pipe in there and that is about it. I just ordered 4 24x24x12 cages and figure they will work a lot better. I will eventually end up with six cages in a 48x36x24 space. Good luck!

ps Your set-up look amazing!
