Gargoyle vocal capability?

schoensten Jan 07, 2005 11:07 AM

Can anyone tell me the age a gargoyle gecko develops vocal capability? I have a 2 month old baby...are both sexes vocal? Should it be making noise already? What should I be listening for? Thanks for your input.

They are capable, to my knowledge, of vocalization soon after they hatch. Dont expect to hear it often though. You will notice vocalization more often as they near adulthod. I hear it most often between breeding adults and fighting subadults and only very rarely from young geckos.

Gargoyles do indeed have vocal capabilites, but don't expect to hear them very often. The one in our possession has been here since April and not a peep has come out of him (he is housed alone).

As quoted from Vosjoli/Fast/Repashy's book: "During fighting, as one locks its jaws on another, it is common for the bite victim to squeal. This situation represents the primary circumstance when this species can be heard to vocalize."
