Mineral Supplements

schism Jan 07, 2005 12:23 PM

I know that the Miner-all 1 is the most recommended mineral supplement for use on tegu's, but I was at an exhibition and picked up some Miner-all 0 without thinking, is there any signifigant problems that I should be worried about? I have proper UVB set up, and the only difference between the two is that 0 has no vitamin d3, but even still I'd like some input. Thanks in advance for any help..

Hi Scott! I guess the first question would be is if you house your tegu(s) outside in direct sunlight or inside as many of us Michiganders do. :0) Even with UVB lighting, research has been leary as to identify the actual longevity of the bulbs. Ther eare many contradictory findings. Anyways, I have always used Rep-Cal brand, phosphorous-free with Vit. D3 (pink label) with great success! One thing is it easier to locate here in michigan, then add shipping costs of the Miner-all. When feeding the SDZ diet, rep-cal, along with herpevite by rep-cal (blue label) are the supplements i use and have had very good success with it, especially in reds with sdz due to the fruit content. (B&W's and even Blues) can get dirhea if they eat too much of the fruit-content in SDZ needed by reds in shedding.

Hope this helps!

I did the same thing. I actually contacted the company and they suggested I buy Minerall I. I did because I was worried, my tegu had MBD when he was a lot younger, and I dont want him to go through that again. This is what can happen.

Thanks for the advice. I have 2 beardies that I use the rep-cal with vit. d3, and that works well for them. My tegu is in an indoor enclosure (8'x3'x2') with the 48" UVB ballast. I live in Canada, so right now I can't take him outside because its winter, but in the summer I can take him out all day in direct sunlight, but if there is any chance that metabolic bone disease could occur if I use Miner-all 0, then I guess I'd be better off using something with vitamin d3... I'm just bummed out that I spent 15 bucks for something I can't use, and should've spent 5 bucks on something that works... Thanks again.
