Jackson's won't eat.

DeadlyMuffin Jan 07, 2005 01:07 PM

Hi, I recently got a Jacksons Chameleon, and although he seemed to be pretty active when I first got him, he's stopped eating almost entirely over the past few days. He doesn't seem thin, and he seems to be drinking regularly, but food just doesn't interest him.

If I hold something in front of his face, he'll usually ignore it. Sometimes he'll turn feebly strike at it with his tongue. He's not striking nearly as hard as he should be though, and more than half the time when he does it he doesn't end up getting the insect out of my hand.

Over the past few days he's eaten just 1 or 2 king mealworms and a cricket, I'm getting very worried and don't know what to do.

Hi - too many variables so knowing your setup (pic, too if possible) will help forum members try and help out. I am NOT a jackson's expert (or any expert for that matter) but can help with the basics.

1- Cage type: size and type of cage (screen/glass)
2-Temps: - basking area and lower in cage
3-Lighting: - what output AND manufacturer of UVB lighting and wattage of basking light where are the lights? on top? distance from basking branch, etc.
4-Humidity: do you have a gauge? What are the readings? Do you use a humidifier? Do you live in the north or south (or other)?
5-Water: how often do you mist? dripper? have you seen him drink?
6-Plants/branches: what plants do you have? lots of coverage where he will feel safe?
7-Food : Gutload? with what?
8-supplements what and how often do you dust and with what (brand)?
9-Cham facts: how old is he? Do you know if he is wild caught or captive born? Did you get him at a show? Breeder?

try getting some mealworms and letting become beetles....my jax doesn't let one crawl a foot in its cage before its gone.

if he is just bord with his food thats what will shake 'em

it could be he is too cold, over supplemented, under supplemented, or dehydrated.

type out the things lele asked you and we can help more.
