Pueblan Milksnake add on classifieds................

jlassiter Jan 07, 2005 06:42 PM

There is ad on the Kingsnake and Milksnake classifieds that explained alot about why certain milksnakes were difficult to name in earlier posts here on this forum. There is a business selling Pueblan milksnakes and says they are from Texas and Mexico. They are Peublans but he thinks they are Mexican milks with that explanation.

I'm not sure I follow you. Could you please explain further? Are you saying that he is selling actual Pueblans, but talks about them as if they are Mexicans? Or are you saying that he thinks they are Pueblans, but they are actually Mexicans?

Chris

The add says they are Pueblans (and they are) but he then goes to say they are from Texas and northern Mexico (as anulatta are). It is just screwy, ya know. Look at it on the classifieds.

I guess he made a mistake or just isn't familiar with the animal. Anyone interested in it won't care too much where it is from.

I don't know about you but I know where all my snakes are from just as most people in the business. But yes I am sure he just made a mistake.

I hear you John...an ad like that would influence me to NOT buy from that person. I saw a site that had the word Montley instead of Motley labeled on a bunch of snakes.....no thanks ya know? LOL ttyl Tom Stevens

I really shy away from things like this myself, even though I have been guilty of the occasional typo.I think most people are able to discern the difference between typos and poor research/knowledge/information/spelling.
Spelling is a big one for me. If an ad says something like "anetheristic" in it, I am not likely to make a purchase from that seller.

Being a locality alterna breeder for many years i do know a little about where my animals come from. But yes, it is possible for someone to make a mistake.

jlassiter Jan 08, 2005 07:04 PM

Yes I know it is hard to know a specific locale, especially with Alterna, but you do know what state your alterna are from, correct?
Because,
Hwy 277, Val Verde, Christmas Mts, Black Gap, Lajitas, and etc.... are in Western part of Texas.
Now,
I never saw a Pueblan in the Southern part of Texas. I have lived here for 33 years.
Information is a must in our hobby to keep things in order and avoid confusion especially with the beginners coming up in the hobby.
Again, he/she could have just made a simple mistake, but I would not purchase any snake if information is given wrong.

There is an ad currently running on KS Classifieds titled "Young Adult Mexican Milksnake". There are two photos. The photo on the right looks like a Pueblan Milksnake to me. But then again...what do I know? I'm a newbie. =)

Chris, you are right. The snake on the right is a pueblan. The one on the left is an annulata.

jlassiter Jan 09, 2005 11:48 AM

You see all this mislabelling causes the confusion we have today with beginners and newbies purchasing snakes. BTW, the ad I referred to at the beginning of the thread is not there any more.

The snake is in no way a pueblan. It is a new mexico milk snake for sure. Not an annulata because the body is not stout enough. I see lots of snakes misrepresented on the classifieds. I am glad I know alot of people that breed pure animals and know exactly where they came from. Otherwise I would not buy them. Once I do see a big misrepresentation I make a mental note and will not deal with that person. I just don't want to spend my hard earned money and not get what...Ric Blair
