Looking to get into Emerald tree bos...

wtoleary444 Jan 07, 2005 07:24 PM

I've been breeding Rainbow boas (Columbians) for about 4 years now. I was thinking about trying to keep some Emerald Tree Boas or Amazon Trees (I like the Emeralds Better).
Any tips or suggestions from the experienced? Thanks!!

The best advice I can give is to buy captive bred and born and do your research on the person you are buying from BEFORE you buy. Second, look at various care sheets, use your common sense (since they will all differ somewhat) and get your caging set up and going before you buy the animal.

Guess I should also warn you. Tree boas can be addictive. One person's comment after watching his collection grow and grow was something similar to "It's not an obsession, umm.... it's a hobby, yeah that's right, it's a hobby".

Good luck!

Why ride in a Ford when you can cruise in a Ferrari? Emerald Tree boas, for what you are looking at, are by far the superior animal. It doesn't get much better than Surinames and Basins.

is just outstanding, but I bet anything it had to be somewhere between 2 and 4K.....he may want to try a CBB suriname first, or one of the less expensive CBB basins out there,,,, and of course, preferably CBB from a breeder you know and/or trust.

Captive born, captive born O yeah did I mention captive born?
Don't settle for anything less. Read as much as you can find about them then read it all again and again. Then setup their cage a month or two before even thinking about buying one to see what changes you will need to make before he/she is put in it. Emeralds are easy to keep and yes they can be tame.

Good luck, Tim Rash
