mystery day gecko

caecilianman02 Jan 07, 2005 09:21 PM

Hi there:

At a local pet store, that often doesn't know what they're selling, I bought what was labeled as a Dubia day gecko last summer. It certainly was dull, but not dull enough. It had red streaks on it's nose, an olive green back, a huge and really long tail, big eyes, and really big calcium pouches on it's jaw. It is very slender.
The thing is, I am not so sure I have a Dubia. It's coloration got really bright, and it is getting bigger and bigger every day now, and is about 6 inches in length. What do you think I could have?

You most likely have the Phelsuma sp. It is usually thought to be P.dubia, but it is clearly they are alot more colorful, they don't glue their eggs, they are larger, and they are very vocal (not sure is dubia are?). I have this species and I like them quite a bit. Hope this helps, care is almost edentical though.
