First Time Corn Owner.... some questions

ShadowDruid Jan 07, 2005 11:05 PM

yay I got my first corn today!! I was originally going to get a ball python as my first snake but then I saw this little guy and fell in love with him/her ! Now I've done research on corns so I know quite a bit, the thing is... this corn is just a baby.. so I wanted to know if anyone could direct me to any good websites / caresheets for babycorns. Any info would be greatly appreciated! thanks in advance =D

Congrats on your new baby. Good choice on a first snake. Although I like BPs too. Just that their feeding habits, or occasional lack thereof, can make them a tad stressful as first time snakes. Even established feeders can go on fasts for no apparent reason. Once you are into snakes for a while it doesn't stress you too much, but for a first time owner it can shake you up. What color is your baby? I'm sorry I'm no help on the link, but someone here will give you one I'm sure. Baby Corns are so much fun. Welcome to the forum, and post pics of your little one if you can!

My standard setup for a baby snake is a locking lid sterilite container with holes drilled in it (small holes) with Aspen bedding and a water bowl. My water bowls double as cool hides as there is a hollow area under them. I put 1/3 of the tub on a human heat pad to create a temperature gradient. I feed every 7 days although some feed every 5 days for babies. After they eat, you need to let them digest for a couple days before handling.

Or you could use a tank setup, with a UTH for heat. I still reccomend Aspen bedding, and you can add some plants to make it look nice. Cork Bark makes a nice hide for small snakes.

Good luck with your new little one!

Congrats on your new corn. They're great snakes. A book that is recommened here on this forum quite abit is The Corn Snake Manual by Kathy Love. It has a lot of good info. Good luck with your new little one.

It's an aztec het creamsicle female.
I'll be breeding it to this creamsicle male in 2006.
