The phosphor/calcium ratio

CokeOfMan Jan 08, 2005 07:44 AM

I just bought a new calcium powder without phosphor, but containing Vitamin A and D3. I asked if she had something that only contained calcium and phosphor, but she hadn't. She said that they usually get enough phosphor anyway. Though she did have Rep-Cal with only Calcium, and I wonder if this would be better?
I know EdK has talked about the calcium phosphor ratio, and I've never really undrestood it untill recently when I looked in the Bartlett book about anoles where Bartlett talkes about that the ratio should be calcium/phosphor 2:1.
And BTW if I understood it right the phosphor prevents the body from taking up to much calcium, is that accurate?

Yea I've heard if they recieve too much phosporous it will bind the calcium making it useless.

Ideally between 1.5 and 2 to 1. Higher than that and you will run into phosphate deficencys (both calcium and phosphate are needed for bone structure and too little or two much of either is a problem).

If you are feeding whole vertebrate prey, I would suggest just using a calcium-D3 supplement.
