Wood sealant for custom cage

giantsfan24 Jan 08, 2005 01:35 PM

I am building a a custom cage(made of wood, not aluminum window screen) and was wondering what was a good sealant. Obviously this will have to be non-toxic when dried. Also, will home depot cut the pieces to your liking if you ask them? Thanks

I used this water based polycrylic stuff. Dont let home deopot or lowes cut the wood for you. They may not do a perfect job. Also be sure to inspect the wood first before buying it to make sure its straight and not cracked anywhere.

i used three coats of a water based minwax brand polyacrilic. they will either do 2 or four cuts for free (i forget) and the rest are 25 cents after. the right tools will make all the difference in getting you cage to fit together squarly. i had access to a radial arm saw which was really usefull. and like roocat said make sure you look through the wood carefully. i spent at least 45 min looking through around 300 peices of wood just to find 12 straight pieces with no cracks. good luck.
