Autopsy advice.....please assist..

bthacker Jan 08, 2005 02:52 PM

Hi there-

I had a Boa die on me this morning that I suspected that there was something "funny" with him since the day I got him. I would like to send him somewhere to either have a biopsy performed as well as an autopsy. What is the process and what kind of costs am I expecting to incur. The snake is currently in the refrigerator. Also, who do I send him to? Any recommendations? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks-

Brett

I would take it to a vet. It is Saturday, so you might have to fridgerate (not freeze) it until you can get it there. From all the neocropsys that I have seen, they usually don't find anything (unless they die from being obese). The best way is to have the vet take samples of the tissues and send them out for better results....

I had one die last year. My vet sent me to a university here in Oregon, to their veterinarian Dept. The base price started at $50, and would go up depending on how far they had to go to determine the cause, but wouldn't go over $200. They wanted to have the chilled(not frozen) snake within 12 hours of death for the best results. So this reply may be too late. Good luck finding out.
