Egg and Hatchling Size survey

reddragon01 Jan 08, 2005 07:17 PM

While looking at my Timor's eggs, I have asked myself many times 'how can something hatch from an egg so small?' So, for those of you that have kept records on your breeding efforts, can you reply with:
1. Monitor type
2. Average size of eggs at hatching (width x length)
3. Total length of hatchlings after leaving the eggshell.

I think this would be a most interesting bit of information.
Thanks! John.

Hi John:

1. Varanus acanthurus brachyurus (Yellow Ackie)
2. Average length: 1 1/8-1 1/4" Width: About 3/4"
3. Hatchling size: 3 1/2-4" Long

Clutch size of 6 eggs, 4 good, 4 hatched.
Length of incubation: 2 at 88 days and 2 at 92 days.

Good luck with your eggs!
Pam

Well congrats Pam, you are either the only person who actually keeps records, or I just don't rate high enough on the food chain to get more responses. In any case, thanks again for the response.
