Dual thermometer

cable2001 Jan 08, 2005 10:28 PM

Ok, as requested, I have pics of my new dual temperature thermometer! This is a digital indoor/outdoor thermometer I bought at Wal-Mart.

As you can see in the first pic, I mounted it to the back wall in the cool end of the tank.

You can see below the pic where the sensor wire goes down into the sand. I left some exposed for the pic.

I ran it down the wall to the base, under the sand across the back wall, behind the rocks, and back up to the basking area.

In the next pic, I've uncovered the wire where it runs under the rocks that form the basking place.

I then ran it back up the wall behind the rocks and lodged it between the rocks and the backwall. You can see the sensor in the last pic. I didn't take the tape off the stick pad because I didn't want to permanently mount the sensor so that I can re-arrange if I so choose.

I think someone also asked me about my other tank once. It is a full paludarium with land, clff ledges, trees, a creek, waterfalls, rapids, and three pools of water. I have a good sized school of fish, some snails, and two anoles in there.

For plants, I have some ficus trees, a fern, moss, banana croton, lichen, pothos, air plants and various water plants.

Thats a neat looking tank. How do you keep the water so clear?
Do you have to take everything out of the tank to clean the water? I like that set up,you have a gift for decorating tanks!!
Thanks for posting the pics!

I don't do much of anything to keep the water clear. THe bottom pool has a pump that pushes the water up to the creek (not visible in the pictures). Right before it goes into the creek, it passes through a filter. Then, it runs through the creek, down a waterfall, down another waterfall, and through the rapids. All of that aerates the water.

Plus, the three main plant pockets are all exposed to the aquarium water, so the plants suck a lot of the gunk out of the water (fish waste and such) and use it as fertilizer!

Not only don't I take everything out to clean it, you can't! The plastic insert that makes up the background elements is cemented to the tank. I don't bother taking any of the decorations out, either. I just use a suction hose and clean around everything, then a algae scraper to clean the walls. There is also an occidentalis catfish in there, along with some snails, to help keep things under control.
