my leo is losing its toe!

7john7 Jan 08, 2005 11:24 PM

i let my mom take care of cosmo for two weeks while i was away. she did good with taking care of them, but failed to keep the humid hide moist. well i guess cosmo shed while i was gone, and when i got back, i saw that one toe had shedding on it, and was bent over. it's about halfway off right now and he's bleeding a little. i feel so bad for the little guy. is there anything i can do besides just waiting for it to come off? and will he be okay as far as any infections?

thanks alot

He'll probably be okay. Try soaking him and loosening the skin or is the skin already off? After you do that you can put some neosporin on it and keep an eye on him. If he seems like it's really bothering him and it keeps on bleeding alot maybe you could call a vet and see what they recommend besides the neosporin.

Neosporin is good. you can also use any generic antibiotic ointment. a nice greasy one can IMO soak in better. sometimes they will continue to bite at it, esp. if its bothering them, which can cause more bleeding. there is some sort of kwik-stop stuff you can use to stop bleeding. It probably also tastes terrible. thats probably the best you can do unless you feel like making an Elizabetan collar for him. (If you do, take a pic!) j/k
