White bump on baby eyelash viper, any ideas??? PICS!!!

NRI Jan 09, 2005 11:45 AM

I finally got a pic of the problem. Any ideas might be helpful...

I just recently acquired a baby eyelash viper from a good friend, now the baby was born without eyes, due to breeding true tigers, so abnormality is expected... But, the little eyelash has developed a white bump and I have never seen anything like this before, any thoughts??? I have a pic but can't post for some reason; any advice would be greatly appreciated... I can send a pic to anyone who might be able to help... Thanx in advance, ~N

What is the humidity level in your enclosure? Very high humidity coupled with poor ventilation can cause very high levels of fungus and bacteria. I would suspect one of these to be the culprit.

Not sure but a possibility. The sibling is doing fine though. The humidity is about 50% but after I spray them it is about 80%-90% for just a few days. I let it dry out for a few days, then spray again. It's like the bumps were developing from under the skin. Thanks for your input... ~N

May I ask why abnormalities are axpected when breeding tiger x tiger? I'm not disagreeing, I really haven't heard of such a thing but I presume it to be an inbreeding issue??

I don't keep schlegeli (or any hots for that matter) I'm just working on attaining ALL of the prerequisite knowledge to do so,

Thanks.

It actually looks more like a smudge in the picture...lol, it's hard to tell anything without a close up, and even then, it fails to compare to an actual exam. How long has this spot been there? Getting larger or smaller? It looks like it may also be a scar from a previous injury. Terribly hard to tell from the pic... I know I know, first we ask for a pic, then a better pic. Just can't be pleased I'd do a search for a herp vet who will then do a culture sensitivity and prescribe an appropriate antibiotic or antifungal. This of course will only work with optimum husbandry which should be a constant quest. A wait and see attitude may work for a bit to answer some of the above questions, but if the snake begins showing other symptoms, like more white spots, lack of feeding, lethargy, or lack of improvement, then that vet search should be sped up.
