cricket keeper question..

joijoi29 Jan 09, 2005 12:36 PM

what is the best type of "tub" to keep crickets in? Clear or colored? How tall? I have metal screen to put in the lid for ventilation. Also...what do you use to get them out?

TIA

Personaly we use an 18 litre rubbermaid tub its blue, i've heard that they can climb put the coloured ones but we haven't lost one yet, we cut a hole in the top and liquid nailed screen to it. I put about an inch of oatmeal in the bottom (not needed)cardboard egg cartons and toilet paper rolls. When you want some just grab the egg carton and shake into bag. Being a female that kinda queers me out but you get a use to it.

Thanks! What do you use the oatmeal for? Bedding or food?

we threw it in the bottom to use as a substrate, but they also eat it. We've read that it can be mixed in with other things to make a gutload but figured that it was there if they wanted to eat it. It makes for harder cleaning, but we don't use many crickets.
