Argentine puking problems?

EricIvins Jan 09, 2005 04:05 PM

I've had my pair of CB04 Argentines for 4 months now. They have been fed from the same source ( as have all my animals ) since I've had them. About 3 weeks ago I fed them and they puked within 2 days of being fed. I waited two weeks and fed them again. The male puked 2 days after being fed, the Female took about 5 days to give it back to me. All my other animals are fine and havn't had a problem with what they are being fed. I have had this problem once before with another small Argentine, but it was considered a fluke by both me and the breeder and was returned to the breeder. I keep them the way I keep all my Boas, with a 86 Degree hot spot and a cool spot that varies from 76-80 degrees. Other than puking, they act normally and still love to "Kiss" me. I'm going to dig out my panacur and flagyl and give them 2 treatments and see how that goes. I've always considered Argentines to be bulletproof, so I don't know whats going on?

.. provide a warm area near 92 degrees. Make sure they can get away from it if they want.

Argentine Boa don't give back what they eat, garfing in these is rare.. follow the heat hints and wait 10 days before offering a small meal... if this doesn't work you may have a problem, regardless of how 'kissable' they think you are!

Gus is right that waiting 10 days to feed them again is a good idea. I would have to say that a parasite treatment would be a little premature unless you've had a fecal float done. The treatments can also cause a little bit of dehydration, since they've been puking that could compound the problem. The only time I've had Argentines puke is when the heat source isn't consistant, ie heat tape that is turning on and off too often. Mine seem to prefer the warmer temps while digesting food as well. I would handle them at all until they've fed at least 2-3 times without regurge.
Good luck-

Soimething I forgot to mention. These guys are being kept under radient heat panels, so the basking spot is actually 5 or 6 degrees warmer than what the thermostat reads. I made the switch from flex-watt to the RHP's about the time I acquired these guys. I'm going to give the flagyl and panacur a try. Followed up with a few probiotic treaments, it has cured many a puker. Ask Pete Bandre, he's the one who put me on to it. But anyway, I guess time will tell
