for a B&W tegu? What all do they need for furnishing. A basking light with a nice big piece of slate maybe? What do you use for a water dish that cant be tipped easily?

For my reds, hey get a cement mixing tub for water, a sheet of plywood to hide under and a lot of mulch. I have also put in stuff to climb on and around as well as a little hut they occasionally use.
the pens are 8' x 8'

This is there summer setup.

I could stretch it to 7 by 4 for an indoor enclosure and really any size for summer outside. He will also be able to run the house when he gets old enough.Of course I havent got him/her yet.

Winter enclosures can generally be quite small assuming the Tegu will brumate. With run of the house and a good summer enclosure outdoors, you probably are good to go with 4x5.

do you have a bottem on the outdoor enclosure or will I have to worry about them digging out?

I use 1/2" hardware cloth as a floor and wrap it under the walls and fasten it down to the outside of the cage so there is no chance of escapeing through a tunnel. a wall and chicken wire along with larger hardware cloth stops escapes from anyone going over the wall.

In the summer, the mulch is spread and at its deepest is about 18". In the winter to help them dig in and stay warm, mulch is added to raise it past 2 feet. I dont have a pic now of the winter setup but if you want I will shoot one tomorrow. Notice how there are PVC clear covers over certain portions of the pen? that is to keep rain off the food and keep the tegus from climbing out when mulch is piled high.

I like your dogs too. I had a rottie that had to be put to sleep this last summer. I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for those dogs. Thanks for the info. I wont have to build the outdoor enclosure till next spring but I can start gathering the stuff for it now.

I was just about to ask if they were hybrids. Off topic, have you had any temperament problems or aggression issues with the wolf hybrids? I think they are beautiful and happy looking dogs! I also love your setup, when I'm "grown up" and have my own home and all I want to be able to do that.

They are definitely not dogs and should not be thought of as dogs. Wolves can be high strung, timid and aloof. Males can be very territorial and mark (urinate on) everything in site. They have almost twice the jaw pressure of dogs and will hunt and kill prey if they get too hungry. They can jump higher and run faster as well. This is not to say that hybrids are evil and bad but people need to know worst case scenarios. Mine are rescues and I love them dearly and they are wonderful pets but they can be a handful at times, especially when introducing them into a pac.

we cant even have pitbulls in this town and its such a little town of about 2500 people. A few years ago they tried to make it so that Rottwiellers would have to be kept in special pens and if they were walked would have to wear a muzzle and no new ones could be owned.Thankfully it didnt pass, at the time we had a rottie who was probably the sweetest dog around, my border collie is more aggressive than the rottie ever was even the vet here thought that it was rediculous.

there are places that have outlawed herps to one degree or another as well. NY state just joined the ranks of HERP-a-phobes. Their new law bans large reptiles like anacondas, burms... and large monitors are listed as well. Don't know how it will effect tegus but regardless Gov. (explitive deleted) Pataki signed it and it is law.

Freedom is never free, it has a high price.
