Raising Humidity? Humidifier Vs. Humid Hide

Ses01 Jan 09, 2005 05:19 PM

Hi all. I was just wondering if anyone could help me out. I need to raise the humidity level of both my snakes cages, up about another 20 degrees. Would this help?: http://www.ball-pythons.net/Sections index-req-viewarticle-artid-41-page-1.html

Or should I just use a humidity hide box with the moss? Thanks a lot.

First of all make sure you are measuring your humdity right (it's not degrees it's percent) make sure you are using a good digital hygrometer, the analog ones just suck. With that being said, if you are using a screen top on your cage simply covering the screen with towel or replacing the top with something that doesn't let the humidity out may be all you need. Also the size of your water dish and or changing the location (put it near a heat source)may work also. Personally I those gadgets that introduct water into the cage because you just can't rely on them not to saturate your cage too much which may cause respitory infections or blisters amoung other ailments. IMO it's better to err on the side of caution. A good substrate and the proper cage should regulate pretty well with just an occasinal spritz from a water bottle.

I know, I meant percent, not degrees... = )

Thanks a lto for the tips. I'll try that out. One of my BP's has a screen cover on it. I'll try the towel method and move the water bowl closer to the heat source. My other BP is in a large sterilite container with holes drilled in the lid and sides. I'm thinking I may have put too many holes in it and the humidity is escaping. Thanks a lot!
