Well, they can eat a lot of stuff really...the question is if they should. ^^ They can eat pinky (baby) mice, as treats only, cockroaches (raised ones, not the ones under your sink...get hissing or lobster roaches)
You can also feed them sowbugs and pillbugs (also known as roly polys) and earthworm bits. They'll happily eat flies and other creepy crawlys you find outside but...this isn't all that great an idea. On the plus side, wild caught insects are more nutrious then any insect you get raised commercially...these wild insects get to eat what they want and have the run of a whole yard...they also add varaity, are free, and many are tasty...if you can judge that by how easily they are accepted by your pet.
However, on the bad side...wild caught bugs can harbor parasites, be carrying pestacides or other poisons, and if you're not a bug expert, you might accidently feed your gecko a poisoness insect. Stick with farm raised bugs if you can...the only bugs I feed from the wild are the big black field crickets I catch at my yard...which is five acres and has neibors who are every enviromentially concious...(they don't spray for pests)
So they can eat a lot of stuff, but be smart in choosing their menu. ^^
