Rocks are a great thing to have in the cage for several reasons. They're fun to climb on, of course, they help keep the nails trimmed down naturally, plus it will give Amon something to rub against when he's shedding. I think it's nice for them to have a choice of what kind of surface to walk on, too. Rocks are great to have under the basking light - they soak up heat very well, depending on the kind of rock you have. Just be sure any rocks rest completely against the floor of the enclosure. People have had uros injured or killed when the uro burrowed under the rock only to be crushed.
My Saharans like to climb on branches (low and wide, only - they're kind of clumsy), but the Malis don't. I don't know what a Hardwicki would like!
