Crickets

jillanddavy Jan 10, 2005 09:45 AM

Hi there, I'm new to this site, and to keeping reptiles.

What is the best container to keep the crickets in? Do they require heat and light the same as the Beardie? Bear in mind that I am in Northern Ireland, and at the moment its cold here. At present we keep them in the room with the beardie, but they have no direct heat, just room temperature.

We have a young beardie (5-6 inches nose to tail) and have read here about misting and bathing. What is required here, as the shop where we bought him said nothing about it.

How many crickets should he eat in a day. At present he is eating appx 5 per day as well as some veggies. Is this sufficient?

Thanks in advance. No doubt I will be back with more questions soon.

Great site.

Davy

crickets can be kept in almost any type of sealed container. I use the dollar general 40 gallon tubs with screen tops. I put in some egg cartons for more walking space and also some oatmeal for them to eat. Some people provide water for their crickets but i dont. Never had any problems with too many crickets dying. Room temperature is fine.

5 crickets a day is not nearly enough for a dragon of that size. The crickets should be no larger than the space between your dragons eyes and should be offered 2-3 times a day. As many as they can eat in a 10-15 minute period. if your dragon only eats 5 crickets a day, that leads me to think that the crickets are too big. baby dragons could easily chow down 50 crickets daily.

hoped i helped
