What is a good Breeding Referance website?

-JayDog- Jan 10, 2005 12:53 PM

I'm looking for some good online referance to breeding. Maybe a site I can refer to when needed. Does anybody have a favorite referance for breeding? I have a few books with a chapter about breeding, but I was looking for more info online.

I've read about the cool down and reduced food proccess. Or just cooling down. I've also read that some breeders don't even cool them down. And Some breeders always keep the male and females together and get eggs almost all year long. It seems as if there are so many options, I'm asking the experianced people on here their recommendations for a first time breeder.

Thanks

Thank you, that was helpful. Another question to all the Breeders out there. I have my heating source on a timer. 13 hours on, 11 off. What happens if the female lays her eggs in the eveningnight when the temp goes down? Will that hurt the eggs? And is peat moss a good humid hide substrate for a gravid female?

Thanks

Hey,
I have a red light over my breeding tank. This keeps it at about 88 degrees day time and 78 at night. Your leo will most likely lay at night because that is the time of most of its activity. Even if you do not want to buy a red or blue light, the eggs will be fine for up to 12 hours(I have read). Before I got the red light, my female was laying when I was asleep and all the eggs where fine.

As for the Peat Moss, I would not use it although some people do. I have vermiculite in mine, I add the same amount of water to it as I would in the containers I have incubating.(about 2:1 verm:water in weight.) or just keep it moist.

Hope I worded everything ok.
