T-Rex's Lizard Maker

Aggie1996 Jan 10, 2005 03:55 PM

Has anyone had any luck with this product? I ordered some over the net (it's rather inexpensive), and have tried everything else to get my 1.0 Mexican Hognose to eat (i.e. I have the right temperature gradient accross the tank, warm on one side, cooler on the other side, and have tried scenting with toad, tuna juice, lizard, chicken broth, also tried feeding a small lizard (med. gecko - no loss there) and even tried force feedeing with no success). I'm at my whit's end (he hasn't eaten for 2.5 months, while the female keeps chowing down like there's no tomorrow), so it's not anything else (i.e environmental conditions or food). Just hoping this works once I get it in the mail.

Thanks,

Will

Will,
I tried that Lizard Maker and found it to be a waste of my money. I had a few stubborn hogs and found this to work best, as a last resort! I cut off about half of a hopper mouses tail and dip it in water. Then I slide down the hogs throat. This is easy to do as its a perfect fit. After doing this 6 to 10 times the hogs usually start eating pinks on their own. Hope that helps, Ron

my wife and i caught a wild caught mexican hognose in the marfa area. that guy would not eat at all. i tried every trick in the book. i tried the lizard marker WHICH DID NOT WORK AT ALL. i even loaned the lizard maker to my friends who were having trouble getting their snakes to eat, and it did not work for them either. so i posted a message here and someone kindly told me to try cat food. that's right, buy a can of fish/seafood flavored canned cat food. rub the cat food on the pinky or mouse. it worked right away. the hognose at the pinky right out of my wife's hand. the little guy also eats tiny fish. hope it works, troy.

I found my wildcaught western would readily eat anoles, the problem is they are expensive. Me and the family went to Florida for vacation and I caught 34 brown anoles and brought them back. I have them set up and happy and my snake is with plenty of chow for awhile. I'm hoping the anoles will breed on their own and give me at least a years supply of food for my western.

I have a female which would only eat anoles. I cut up an anole with shears and fed her a chunk at a time. After I fed her a chunk of anole I quickly offered a well washed/rinsed anole scented pinky and she ate it. She is currently on scented pinks. I don't think it will be long before she is off scented. Might be worth a try. Steve/El Paso
