Handling cresteds....

maysher Jan 10, 2005 04:59 PM

I was wondering about opinions on regularly handling cresteds. Good idea, bad idea, neutral?

I have a pair and I've noticed big differences in the male and female. The female is much easier to pick up and handle and the male invariably tries to squirm away and gives an angry open gape display when held. I like taking them out every one and a while if only to get a good up close examination of their health but won't do it if it ends up being too stressful for them.

I think they tame down with handling. I have several that are regular pets, but maybe some have a disposition that makes it stressful for that individual.

I have just 1 male about 5-6 months old, and he kinda runs away when I go to get him out of his set-up but, when he gets in my hand he is very content and will jump from hand to hand, seems happy. So... I think its good to handle them, but like most animals they have different personalities so if it seems like its making him stressed and hes not getting use to it, I would just leave him be as much as possible. But like I said my male doesnt mind it at all.
