isenheart8 Jan 10, 2005 05:14 PM

Hi guys,

I was wondering if it would be possible to breed teo subspecies of pac man frog to create a hybrid pac man, for intsance would it be possible to crossbreed ornata and cranwelli pac mans???
Also i have a young Cranwelli 2-3 mounths old, which i need to sex hes not calling so i cant tell that way and is too young to be able to tell the sex by its size,, so i was wondering if someone could post a pictures showing the difference between the throats of males and females, and also the diffrenece between the feet pads of males and females so i can compare them to my frog,, at the moment he has dark black spots on his throat but i dont know if that means he is male or not? Plz help someone!

Yes there can be hybrids by applying hormone treatment. These are called "Fantasy Frogs" and are mostl likely sterile.
Pacman males and females: Males sometimes have black(compleatly black I think?) throats in breeding season. The nuptial pads also sometimes occur then I think.
The best way otherwise is to look at the frogs size (3-4" may be male. 5-6" most likely female) and hear if the frog croaks, then, orcourse, it's a male.

why do we keep propogating this myth that any or all hybrids are naturally sterile. There is no proof of it until crossbreeding tests are done. Even then the degree of sterility is debatable

So, have noone ever tried to breed two fantasyfrogs?
