Ever wonder why Alterna are worshipped but Mexicana are not?

Nokturnel Tom Jan 10, 2005 06:33 PM

I know for some people it is the thrill of the hunt when it comes to hunting Alterna. I can understand the pride someone may have to show off a collection of them especially when all were collected by themselves. However it seems even some ALterna fanatics who like Mexicana in general seem much more interested in talking about the Alterna? I saw some nice Anery Alterna in Daytona this year. Wish I bought them....but I was reminded by a friend many Alterna people have no interest in morphs. Personally Thayeri are by far my faves. The color is unmatched as far as non morph Kings. But then you see the Mex Mex and the Greeri and some look just like Alterna yet they get half the attention of the Alterna???? I seriously think that in comparison to sales....the Mexicana would be the hardest to move and it's odd because they're great snakes. I am kickin myself in the rear right now because I don't have any pics of mine and they're in brumation. Hopefully we'll get a flood of both line bred and wild type Mexicana pics. I know a few people on here like these snakes. Let's see if I woke up any other Mexicana lovers. Please post some pics Tom Stevens

Here is a "splitband" Mex mex from Mark Kenderdine. Isn't she awesome? Never misses a meal and look at the colors.

Post away brotha! Let's see em! Tom Stevens

I kinda agree with Rainer down below. I am tired of the Eastern stuff for a while. Nothing against you Keith. I just prefer some color. I got rid of the black and white back in the 70's. LOL

This particular snake I feel is going to make an impressive adult. Cool color and contrast Tom Stevens

jlassiter Jan 10, 2005 09:59 PM

Yeah Tom,
It is my favorite '03 hatchling. Here is a pic of him from last year.

BlueKing Jan 11, 2005 09:45 PM

Not all E. kings are Black & white anymore! No white on this baby (just yellow, orange, red and dark brown - 100% E. King)!!! The seventies are gone, WOOOHOOO!!! (And No, it's not photoshopped )
Ok, I've had my fun - no offense of course!
But yes, those mexicanas & greeris are severely underrated as I have owned some myself. Beautiful pics, John! I see they have come a long way too (like the easterns). Might have to get me a pair THIS year! Thanks for sharing! Post more pics, I ENJOY looking at them. It will help me decide which ones I want!

JETZEN Jan 11, 2005 09:54 PM

SHE DRIVES ME CRAZY JUST LOOKING AT HER!!!

jlassiter Jan 11, 2005 10:02 PM

That is one of the nicest looking Easterns around. I hope she holds the color into adulthood too. Was this produced by you or, if not where was it produced. I want some DROOL. Maybe we can work out a trade or something LOL.
Thanks for the awesome picture ZEE. I have nothing against them at all. I just wanted to boost some popularity of the Mexicana ssp. in general.
Love the pic,
John Lassiter

Hi John! The gorgeous girl is a Will Still product from last year! Can't wait till she's a little older. I have some intersting breeding plans in the future! If she can hold onto at least half of that color (into adulthood) I'll be thrilled! We'll see . . .

Good luck Zee! Nice Getula.

BlueKing Jan 12, 2005 04:13 PM

Thanks, Jetzen! If she will keep just half of those colors, I'll be very happy (Right mow she's 19" long).

Here is my female from Eric Kikel. This girl is the younger sibling to the only striped Greeri in existence. Though it was proven to be not genetic she has some nice aberrencies.

BlueKing Jan 11, 2005 09:49 PM

Just one of MY personal favorites! Thanks!

jlassiter Jan 11, 2005 10:08 PM

Greeri are great. These are usually never hard to start feeding (although sometimes are) and have beautiful colors. They are variable as most Mexicana ssp. are. I wish they were more people's favorite. How can you not like Mexicana snakes? Color, variability and docile.
Thanks for the compiment Zee.

BlueKing Jan 12, 2005 04:19 PM

The BEST thing about those is they're like that (all kinds of colors) naturally - without being a hybrid! Just my personal opinion (didn't mean to P off any hybrid fans - I think some hybrids ARE pretty, just not interested in them just like I'm not interested in pyhtons/boas)

jlassiter Jan 10, 2005 09:38 PM

Thanks Chris,
I won't have any until '06. These guys are great. Great feeders and grow quicker than Alterna or Greeri. And have the same calm disposition as Thayeri.

Nokturnel Tom Jan 10, 2005 07:52 PM

I like that a lot too. I have not seen many like that. Tom Stevens

jlassiter Jan 10, 2005 10:44 PM

I like him too. He is breeding with my dark phase female this year in hopes to produce a dark phase splitband offspring. In the near future he will breed with my little splitband female as well. We shall see what comes of them. These mex mex are great feeders and very docile. I cannot see why they aren't more popular in the trade.

Here is one of the "locale" Alterna I own. It is a female Greyband from Lajitas Texas.

Uncloudy Jan 10, 2005 07:35 PM

I really enjoy the beauty and variatibility of the ssp. mex. My favorite is the mex mex in my biased opinion, San Luis Potosi, because I have a pair from Bob Applegate. I guess I'm just a Mexican fan in general on both the snakes and the women because I live just 25 minutes from the Mexico border. Pic of the Bob Applegate mex mex female. To me the Eastern Kings are boring compared the Mex's, but I still love to see all the excellent pics of them in this forum. I wish the Mex's had their size though.

Chris,
Nice pics of some awesome Thayeri. That is color and who needs morphs when we can get a clutch of eggs that hatch out yellow snakes, orange snakes, red snakes, buckskin snakes, grey snakes and black snakes. Lol!
You gotta love Thayeri and the whole Mexicana ssp.
Thanks for the pics,
Now how about that girl I sent you guys. We gotta see the "heart"
