he is so cute

McNasty78 Jan 10, 2005 09:45 PM

Cute pup ya have there! Here's a pic of my 2 Akitas. The male on the left is named Bear, he is 132lbs and 4 years old. The female on the right is named Kiwi, she is 78lbs and is 2 years old. They are unrelated, but have similar markings. The big guy is mostly pretty cool (not good with animals except kiwi)...and even tempered. Watch out for the little one though, she'll getcha! Anything that moves is fair game as far as she's concerned. lol

I'm not much of a dog person, but I like the male. He knows people, and if you move on his territory he'll show you a shallow hole in the desert. He's an Italian Watch Dog huh? :D

I didn't know Akitas got THAT big. I'm going to have bad dreams now, after seeing your pic.

McNasty78 Jan 11, 2005 04:00 PM

People claim they have bigger, but he is the biggest I've seen as well. He actually really likes people, and as long as nobody is acting strange or wrestling, he's a mush. But not when he's outside......He's a little psycho lol.

dmac Jan 11, 2005 07:08 PM

he said the reason he got one is because they are known for their keen protection of children.

McNasty78 Jan 11, 2005 07:29 PM

They are VERY protective and interested of/in children. But due to their size, horseplay usually ends up with a very upset child with a fat lip. Lol The male especially gets all excited and jumps around, normally resulting in a head-butt of some sort. Now when I have company, I separate them in another room. Which is just about the worst thing for developing socialization and manners......but I don't want to risk a real injury to anyone.

The spots are driving me nuts!!! Bandogge? Is my best guess at this point lol.

BillyBoy Jan 11, 2005 04:17 PM

I guess, you could call him an American Molosser. Honestly, we're not totally sure since we adopted him from Pit Bull Rescue when he was already about 1.5 years old. He was picked up as a stray, cropped ears and all. Our best guess is 1/2 APBT and 1/2 AB. He's got a 23.5" head and weighs in at a very trim and muscular 80#. Just like your big male Akita (your dogs are great by the way!!), if you come in through the front door and act cool, he's fine and he's never met a stranger, but if you get to acting funny or get physical with my daughter, he'll let you know his displeasure, especially outside. Very serious dog when he chooses to be, but mostly he's just a big, mushy goof ball! Best damn dog I've ever had!!!!!!!!

A bandogge is a cross of different molosser types, you can see quite a few on the website www.moloss.net or .com I'm not sure. Thank you for your compliment on my 2! Nothing beats a real dog! lol

BillyBoy Jan 11, 2005 07:22 PM

That's a great site for "our" kind of dogs, LOL! Technically speaking though, I believe a Bandogge is only a cross between a pit and a neo. Anyway, here's my big boy and his "partner", a 50# red nose runt, on active duty out in the Florida room. Enjoy!!

A neo/pit bandogge/bandog is more common than others.
Another common one is the bullmastiff/pit. But according to the breed description on moloss.com (not moloss.net that is the wrong site) a cross between any moloss type can rightfully be called a bandog. The head on that dog of yours is massive!!! I wanna squeeze him!!! lol bet he's a snuggler just like my 2.

My pitt isn't much of a watch dog. Pat her on the head and give her a treat and she'll wag the whole time you pack my stuff out. The pit/husky is the same way. All three will try to get in the car and leave with you.... traitors....lol.
