Heating a rubbermaid container???

charky2002 Jan 10, 2005 08:19 PM

Can a heat mat be used to heat a rubbermaid container or will it melt it?? Also if you can use a heat mat do you mount it outside the tub like an aquarium, or inside like a wood cage. Thanks for any help

Sure you can use any sort of heating element that goes under the tub. Flexwatt, prefab undertank heater etc.. You must have a thermostat to control the element or it is possible that it can melt the tub. Johnson Controls Herpstat Ranco are all good tstats and a fair price. Helix is a good unit but a little pricy for the features I think... Hope this helps,

As long as your using a good quality thermostat you will not have a problem with mats or heat tape. I would stick to a proportional thermostat like the Herp Power Thermostat by Big Apple or a Helix. Personally, I think using an expensive analog on/off like Johnson control or the like is not costs effective. You might as well get the Herp Power which I personally own many of. However, if your going on/off thermostat get something like the ESU or BAH-1000. I have both and have had no problems.

Thanks. Normally I use Aquariums for my snakes but since my collection keeps growing rubbermaids make a bit more sense, and their cheaper lol.

Can you hook up more than one heatpad to the same thermostat, or do you need to buy a thermostat for each tub?? Sorry if this is a silly question but I have never used one (always used heat bulbs).
