Use cypress bark it is the best for keeping humidity .
Pine and ceader is toxic to snakes and should not be used .
some people use recyled news paper pellets one of the breeders
at the local herp show uses it.
also aspe is good forgive me and my spelling.

Cypress Mulch is what I recommend for wood substrate.

Personally, I would use newspaper; it is FAR better than any wood or particulate-type of bedding. I feel that many burms are misdiagnosed (not so much by vets but by folks giving out bad advice on forums) with RI when in fact they are actually experiencing respiratory problems from the dust they are inhaling from wood products. You also run the risk of your snake ingesting a big splinter of wood which could (will) lead to death. Newspaper is CHEAP, easy to keep clean, it can be kept in high humidity situations, you can even heavily mist it and it is resistant to mold and bacteria growth. For burms and most herps, newspaper is far superior.
