Finally got mine, Now a couple questions

digiport Jan 11, 2005 08:45 AM

Well I finally! got my bearded dragon. He's going to be orangish when he gets older I believe, 9 months right now. I have just a couple questions for you all.
1) How long before attempting to handle? He's already eating greens from my hand but still gets skittish when I get too close.
2) Water? Should I just spray him down twice a day? Will this also aid his shedding?Should I put it in a bowl.
3) Shedding. I see he started to shed but the rest of him seems done and the tail skin hasnt come off all the way. I sprayed him eysterday twice and this morning the skin was still there, should I worry about this? Will he get it himself?
4) Soaking. Is this needed. Should I be pulling him out and soaking him once a week?

Sorry these are just some very very recent questions that have just come up as I dont want to make his first days with me bad ones. I will get pics as soon as I get a camera :D THanks.

I only soak mine when hes shedding or when hes dirty because he hates it..As for the tail shed give it a while and if it still doesn't come off you can try soaking him then.I wouldn't mist him that often either especially if your doing it while he/she is in their cage.It will raise the humidity increasing chances of respiratory infection. They recieve most of their water needs from their food anyhow.Only time it is necessary to give them extra water is if they were dehydrated.

Alright I will lay off the sprays then. I was doing it twice a day worried he would get dehydrated. I guess he wasnt lapping it up so Im sure he isnt that thirsty. He seems to like the mist though which is funny. How about handling yours?Did you wait a few days or what. It's odd he eats right out of my hand but when it comes to getting to close or touching him too much he backs off quickly. Any suggestions in this department are much welcomed. thanks again.

I was handling mine the first day I got it but your not supposed to.Give it about a week to acclimate then you can start handling him for a few minutes at a time.
