Question on overfeeding

zoolady Jan 11, 2005 02:54 PM

I know over feeding is bad for some reason, but what is it? My friends Redtail got overweight. But she asked me what health problems that would cause and for the life of my I cant remember. Anyone help me out here please?
BTW, it HAD that huge fatty lump by the vent...it has finally almost completely gone away as I had her cut way back on how often she feeds it! But still wouldlike to know what problems it can cause. Thanks!

Death, at a much earlier age, boas should live to at least twenty under proper care.

Second, not breeding.

The health problems occuring with overfeeding lead to irregular growth of the organs, and fat deposits which inhibit natural body functions.

Obeseity is NOT a slight problem or one that can be reversed, it the poor thing has been fed to much from birth, it is too late to reverse the damage done.

Sorry for such a grim message, the number one reason people need to research before buying animals. Preventativ measures are the best, and often the only way with reptiles.

The health issues are most important in not over feeding. I feel over feeding and power feeding takes away from the look of the snake as well. Look at a snake that was power fed. Scales don't have the time to develop as well as a normal fed snake. The scales can be discolored or off in color.

It may just be me, but that's what I've seen.
