I live in northern ohio and it is the middle of winter up here so this story is kind of wierd. We just got a warm period in our weather and the 6 inches of snow melted causing the ground to flood. Then an ice storm came and knocked out most of the power in my town. This led to a lot of basement floodings. My friend was trying to bail out his basement when he noticed something swimming around a wood pile.Long story short, it was an eastern tiger salamander. He brought it to me and i noticed it had an injured tail. I looked more closely today and it has rotting skin around the wound and the wound is almost all the way through the tail. It is wery bad. he is not losing blood, but i was wondering if i should amputate the tail since i have heard they grow back and i fear the infection could spread. the wound is half-way down the tail. the salamaander is around 6 inches long. If you have any idea of what i can or should do to help the little guy out, let me know. I would take him to the vet, but there aren't any herp/amphibian vets around. Thanks for taking the time to read this and respond.
