Hunt for the Blood Orchid

mrlizardtx Jan 11, 2005 06:10 PM

I just bought the DVD Anacondas 2. I really didn't pay too much attition to the cover until I got home. The snake on the cover isn't an anaconda. It's a burm, and the DVD itself is a coiled burm, too.

Yeah I know it pissed me off. I wish hollywood would get their s**t together when it comes to this stuff. When the 'conda is in the water it is the right coloration. But when visibly on land it looks like a burm. Their coloration on land doesn't match up with the coloration in the water the majority of the time.

While I cannot deny that snake on the cover is certainly not ana anaconda...I must say the movie did have the coloration and pattern of a green anaconda (the scene with the anaconda going for the monkey in the log especially). And i will not buy the movie to see the coiled up burm. That movie got my money once at the theatre and I was mad enough at that. Completely worthless. NO facts were correct. Not only were the anacondas in the wrong part of the world but did you notice the mccaws as well. Also, anacondas will pass up all feeding oportunity when seeking out the female. And the breeding ball more resembled a breeding of garter snakes and NOTHING like an anaconda breeding ball.

Well, for what it's worth, it's a stupid enough B grade movie that I suspect even the general public will realize it's a stupid B grade movie.
After all, I think its target audience (aside from herpers wanting to watch a stupid comedy) are people who consciously want to see a silly bad movie.
For those who want any accuracy, do not watch the movie Komodo! It makes this Anaconda thing look like a good documentary. People become rabid zombies from the lizard's saliva.
And the giant lizard was stagnant enough to be put to shame by the technology of the 40's and 50's movies.
I did fal over laughing however, during a climatic battle in which the giant lizard was standing ten feet from the heroes shooting at it. The lizard stood in one place and roared. Without even looking at the people. And the people shot at it with no effect. For three minutes straight.
Damn that was a bad movie...

You see, Sorority House Masacre is a B rated horror film. Anacondas: Hunt for the Blood orchid was a real "big screen blockbuster film." I even have to say the original anaconda movie (while still unrealistic, overdramatized, and no help to the banning of large constrictors) was a better film. It is pretty easy to believe anthropologists looking for a tribe of people may take a boat on a random tributary and find some giant anacondas. And that movie left the facts out and basically said anacondas can get big. The only real thing that was not factual was they made them a bit bigger than you would ever see (even in some remote place where you would find the largest anacondas) and their active feeding and chasing down the people. But find me a film that doesnt severly overdramatize and it is called a documentary (unless done by Austin Stevens...then it is called a joke and a sensationalistic worthless harm to the herp keeping community). Besides, hunt for the blood orchid barely had anything to do with anacondas. the movie should have been called "Trip through the Jungle looking for fountain of youth flowers where sometimes anacondas and spiders attack"

The one I have, simply called Komodo, is actually a good movie compared to other reptile horror movies-the lizards are too big and in the wrong part of the world(but the placement is explained early on-several eggs are dumped by illegal pet brokers). Other than that, it's better than any of the snake movies I've seen, and there's nothing about the zombie issue. I did see one at the rental store called Curse of the Komodo, could this be it? If so, thanks for the warning-I almost rented it several times. As far as the Anacondas movie goes, is it just me or does the snake on the cover look like 2 pythons? The coil in the foreground is obviously a Burm, but I thought the back curve looked more like an African rock.

From a quick look at it I was kind of thinking the same thing. But I still couldnt conclude what the heck they were thinking so I figured id give it no more thought. Bottom line is..the movie was terrible and the snake on the cover, while likely more native to the area (no matter what kind or how many pythons it is lol) than the green anaconda, is not the snake the movie is titled after nor does it appear in the film.

Yep, the bad one is called Curse of the Komodo. But thanks for pointing out that there's a good one simply called Komodo. I'll need to look for and watch that one.
Eunectes4, I love your suggestion for an alternate title. I'll bet if they marketed it with that name, it would have gathered some interest. Truth in advertising paying off and all.
Guess the main reason I'm sort of defending that movie is I loved the scene where the yuppie lady was running all over the boat in the middle of nowhere with her cellphone yelling "Can you hear me now?"
Don't know about the DVD snake's coloration I'm afraid.

Weird, I didn't notice that! I'll check that out next time I go to the video store.
One of the rare movies in which the sequel is better than the original LOL! Of course that wasn't hard to do... But Anacondas in Borneo? They could have at least chosen a species from that half of the world... Oh, well. B grade silly fun none the less. Me and my weakness for bad movies.
