What is the going price on a baby redtail usually at shows?

savana_man Jan 11, 2005 06:20 PM

I know it varies alot depending on were you are, but i'm just wondering because I think my dad is looking into getting me something for my b-day (17 on January 27th) and if it's not too much I could ask for my camera phone and get a redtail with my money. Oh I have done the research on this species, just the prices I see are for the morphs. Thanks in advance.

Brian,
You can’t possibly be serious about the $50.00 thing (well, I guess you could be and I just don't agree LOL). A cheap import from central America was selling for $40.00 - $50.00 at Daytona this year. That was for a fresh import of the boat without being de-wormed or guaranteed feeding. (most of which will only take live).
A nice Captive Born Boa with good colors and health should easily get about $100-$150 and just an average looking captive born Colombian should get between the $50-$100.00 mark.
Now that is also considering that many have to drive hours (some fly hours) to get to the shows which is an additional expense. If you get them from the adds on Kingsnake then you also have shipping which can be from $30-$75.00 additional to the cost.
So getting a nice captive born Boa from a local Reptile shop or small show for $100.00 is not too much at all, in fact it is still ahead of the game if you have to get them from one of us out of area breeders.
I won’t even start with the crazy variety of the Morphs with all the different prices there LOL. Heck I can get $50.00 per head, wholesale, from some of the bigger dealers for nice pink babies and that is in FL where most of the importing is done at.
Thanks

$50 is way low. My babies are worth twice that easily....NORMAL babies. I still see them in pet shops for $150-200. $40 shipping. You get what you pay for...I don't see myself selling any of my BCI for $50.

You are right it depends on where you are located. Here in NY state, the only shows closest to Rochester are Syracuse and the NY city white plains show. I have not been to those yet, instead I go to PA, and the going rate for a common boa baby is $65 - $100 bucks! The white plains show is this weekend and I would like to go, I just do not feel like driving 6 hours to get there. Hope this helps, Andy

Yeah it helped a little. I asked the same question before I got my ball and I was told 40 and up I got mine for $20 because he was a little older. After the show this weekend i'll put the average price up.
